Metro Aviation recently received a new Eurocopter EC145 for Memorial MedFlight, the air medical and critical care transport team for Beacon Health System’s Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Metro Aviation is performing the completion of the new aircraft at its main facility located in Shreveport, Louisiana.
“While working with Metro Aviation, everyone has made me feel like my opinion is valued and they are trying to please me within the realm of what we want to accomplish, along with what is capable and possible within the regulations,” said Rodney Logan, Program Director for Memorial MedFlight. “Working with Metro has a very personal feel, and everything during the process has fallen in line with the values of the hospital.”
The Memorial MedFlight crew visited Metro’s facility this week to take a look at their new aircraft and make final configuration plans with Metro’s team. Logan says the EC145 was chosen for the larger cabin, larger payload and range as compared to their current EC135. This allows the program to expand the services it currently provides. In addition, the aircraft is equipped with IFR, allowing the crew to have the latest technology in communication and safety capabilities. “This aircraft gives us the tools we need to grow, not only from a safety perspective, but also our capabilities,” said Logan.
Metro will coordinate delivery of the aircraft in May as Memorial MedFlight transitions from their current vendor to Metro Aviation. The EC145 will be based at South Bend Regional Airport in Indiana.
