Metro Aviation is ensuring their pilots are as safe and efficient as possible by introducing Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) to their fleet of more than 120 aircraft. The EFBs will allow pilots to access charts, maps, company manuals and a variety of weather and flight planning resources. In addition, enterprise software will allow central control and verification of updates, ensuring pilots have the most accurate information in-hand at all times.
Metro recently chose to partner with Complete Flight to implement an innovative operations software solution. Metro’s operational control flight authorization process, passenger manifests, pilot qualification tracking, aircraft weight and balance, pilot scheduling and FAA data reporting functions will all be accomplished through Complete Flight’s web-based applications.
“Metro’s EFB program raises the bar in helicopter air ambulance (HAA) operations by enhancing our pilots’ ability to access the information they need to do their job safely and effectively,” said Metro’s Director of Operations Jim Arthur. “Pairing our EFBs with Complete Flight’s operations software allowed us to enhance safety of flight, exceed the requirements of the FAA’s new HAA regulations and continue to provide operational excellence to our customers.”
Metro received FAA authorization for EFBs following a comprehensive six-month evaluation period that tested the new technology’s functionality in each type of aircraft operated by Metro. Now that the trial period is complete, Metro will provide two Apple iPad devices for each aircraft in their fleet.
