Med-Trans Corp. has partnered with Outerlink Global Solutions and Metro Aviation to provide IRIS flight data tracking, monitoring and communications. This advanced technology is much more than simply flight tracking or flight data monitoring, but rather it is all encompassing. IRIS will provide Med-Trans with the capabilities to record large amounts of aircraft data, process it through an onboard computer and filter it directly to the company’s Operations Control Center (OCC) every ten seconds. This solution provides global coverage for Med-Trans’ extensive fleet of aircraft allowing for immediate communications air-to-ground, ground-to-air, or air-to-air, from anywhere in the world.
IRIS is the first commercial rotorcraft use of situational awareness technology similar to that employed by the military. IRIS delivers an uninterrupted connection with constant flight data monitoring, push to talk communications, real-time flight tracking, and in- flight vehicle condition data and alerts.
Fred Buttrell, president and CEO of Med-Trans Corp stated, “We are excited to take this next step in our safety evolution providing real-time integration to our Operations Control Center (OCC). This technology will let us know if our aircraft are healthy and if they are being flown in a safe manner. It also allows us to trend occurrences both from a mechanical and flight operations perspective, and we are able to build deviations into our Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) program.”
IRIS also utilizes Outerlink’s next generation flight data acquisition system. The IRIS system houses everything necessary to provide Med-Trans with a variety of on-demand features, giving them the ability to install the FDM safety and productivity tools available as well as third party approved applications.
As the industry’s needs evolve, so will IRIS. Likened to a tablet with several apps installed, users are only limited by their imagination. The system has the capability to store several applications for individual users’ specific needs, ensuring the solution will never be outdated and always on the forefront of technology.
Med-Trans is assured that Outerlink’s investment in the new geo-redundant data receiving and distribution centers will maintain the fidelity and security of the tracking and communication product.
Outerlink will provide basic customizable analytics software with the equipment, which allows Med-Trans to retain their own encrypted data and evaluate it. The most technologically advanced tracking, vehicle data acquisition and communications system in the world launches the fourth quarter of 2015.
